Medical groups weigh in on gun control President Barack Obama may not have won any converts at the National Rifle Association with his recent proposals for reducing gun violence, but associations representing the medical community had reason to celebrate. Obama is seeking to lift restrictions on the collection of data on gun violence by federal agencies as well as provide training to teachers and others who work with children on how to identify mental illness. In addition, he said that federal law does not prevent doctors from talking to patients about whether they have guns in their homes.
